African Heritage has been
engaged by NEMUS
- Gestão e Requalificação Ambiental to conduct the cultural heritage
impact assessment in two projects of Lilongwe Water Board. the first project
involved a proposed new raw water intake 11km upstream of the Lilongwe river and
a conveyance system from there. Several archaeological sites have been
identified in the process.
The second project involved the proposed raising
of Kamuzu Dam I which required a survey of 700ha. Again several archaeological
sites were found ranging from Later Stone Age to recent times. The high number
of smelting sites and two large Marave period sites were particularly
remarkable.
